Speed is of the essence when performing ABR tests on infant patients. The fact of the matter is, keeping a child still and quiet for an extended period of time is difficult without sedation, which comes with its fair share of risks. When using a click stimulus, only the 3000-4000 Hz region is activated. Because of those limitations, researchers have longed for a stimulus that triggers all desired frequencies of the basilar membrane at the same time.
